FY2010 Appropriations RequestsRep. Holt has requested funding for the following initiatives in Fiscal Year 2010 Appropriations. The House Committee on Appropriations next will begin the process of reviewing these requests. 180 Turning Lives Around Amount requested: $600,000 180 Turning Lives Around is a nonprofit organization based in Hazlet, New Jersey that works to combat domestic violence affecting youth and teens. Funds would be used to expand access to services that prevent violence among youth and teens, and to assist children and teens who have experienced domestic violence and sexual assault or rape.
Advanced Cerametrics Inc. Amount requested: $2 million Funding would be used to further develop piezoelectric fiber composite transducers that may be used to accumulate electric power over an extended period of time to power microelectronics used for condition-based maintenance or monitoring of military systems or infrastructure.
American NanoMyte/NEI Corporation Amount requested: $2 million Funds would be used to develop and demonstrate a novel class of self-healing pretreatment and polymer coatings that contain corrosion inhibiting nanoscale particles. The products would exhibit damage responsive behavior similar to that of chromate-based formulations but with significantly reduced environmental impact, as well as improve the corrosion resistance and paintability of lightweight metals (e.g., magnesium and titanium), facilitating their use in numerous weapons applications in place of aluminum and steel .
Arts in Education Program, Department of Education Amount Requested: $53,000,000 Funding would be used for funding model arts education programs in schools in communities throughout the country, the professional development of arts educators, and the ongoing national arts education initiatives of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and VSA arts, a program which ensures that people with disabilities can participate in the arts.
Brookdale Community College Amount Requested: $400,000 Brookdale Community College has played an active role in developing workforce training to meet local needs for both incumbent and future workers. The funding would be used for help highly-trained technology professionals affected by the slated closure of Fort Monmouth to build on their technology expertise in telecommunications and related fields.
Carbozyme, Inc. Amount Requested: $3,022,236 Carbozyme, Inc. would use the funding for the Carbonic Anhydrase technology process for the removal of CO2 from fossil fuel gas water streams. Funding would be used to create a demonstration project for zero emission fossil fuel power plants.
CentraState Healthcare Amount Requested: $250,000 The funding would be used for (1) a Mobile Health Awareness Van, which travels to underserved neighborhoods to provide vital health screenings and important health information; (2) outreach programs taken into schools, churches and community centers; and (3) an onsite state-of-the-art medical fitness center. The funding for this award-winning program would expand capacity, develop best practices for a nationally replicable model, and promote savings for the health care system.
Children's Futures, Inc., Amount Requested: $400,000 Funding would allow Children’s Futures, Inc to expand the research-based, nationally recognized Nurse Family Partnership home visiting program to support new parents, improve their parenting skills, and improve their young children’s healthy growth and development. The funding would be used to provide 100 new mothers with trained home visitors to improve their parenting skills and improve their young children's healthy growth and development.
College of New Jersey Amount requested: $400,000 Funding would be used by the College of New Jersey for a closed circuit security surveillance system as part of an ongoing security upgrade. When fully operational the system would assist campus police in responding to incidents and improving the safety and security of students.
The College of New Jersey Amount Requested: $185,000 The Educational Opportunity Fund is designed to provide access to higher education for disadvantaged New Jersey residents who would not be able to attend without financial assistance and support services. The funding would be used to provide academic support, supplemental instruction, and financial assistance to additional students.
Crossroads of the American Revolution Association Amount Requested: $375,000 The Crossroads of the American Revolution Association, Inc. would use the funding for the preservation and restoration of the Old Stone Arch Bridge in Bound Brook. The project would include soil excavation on both sides of the bridge, the construction of a new stone headwall, the repointing of spandrel walls and buttresses and the rebuilding of the northern parapet.
Cyber Crime and Forensics Institute at Rider University Amount requested: $2,000,000 Funding would support the Cyber Crime and Forensics Institute at Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey - a national leader in developing programs to help combat internet-related crime. Funding would be used to 1) deliver advanced training in combating cyber crime, fraud and forensics to federal, state and local law enforcement officials, business managers and consumers, and 2) expand the training to include IT professionals and middle managers at community banks, which have become a major target of cybercrime.
Delaware River Basin Commission Amount Requested: $715,000 The Delaware River Basin Commission is seeking the federal share of funding that is authorized by the Delaware River Basin Compact. In light of recent flooding events in the Delaware River Basin, the DRBC has undertaken many initiatives to address regional flooding. This funding would be used to continue the Commission’s work to improve water quality protection, water supply allocation, flood loss reduction, drought management, watershed planning, permitting, and water conservation.
Delaware River Basin Commission Amount requested: $250,000 Funding would help the Delaware River Basin Commission develop an Enhanced Flood Warning System. Working with the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration, the United States Geological Survey, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the Delaware River Basin Commission would lead development of enhancements to the basin’s flood warning, which would meet a critical flash flood warning need for New Jersey communities located in the Delaware River flood plain.
Delaware Township Amount Requested: $397,150 The funding would help Delaware Township make improvements to Buchanan Road. Funding would be used for the necessary construction, permitting, and inspection services to widen the road to 18 feet.
East Amwell Township Amount Requested: $60,000 The Township of East Amwell would use the funding to implement energy saving measures for Township owned facilities.
East Amwell Township Amount Requested: $620,000 The Township of East Amwell would use the funding for the rehabilitation of the Clawson House, which is on the National and New Jersey Registries of Historic Landmarks.
Englishtown Borough Amount Requested: $1,320,000 Funding would support municipal roadway improvements in Englishtown Borough, including resurfacing and drainage improvements for Victory Drive, Hospitality Way and Heritage Drive. In addition, funding would be used to enhance pedestrian safety for the Borough’s business district’s main roadways: Main Street and Water Street.
Ewing Township Amount Requested: $1,230,000 The Township of Ewing would use the funding for energy efficiency upgrades for the Ewing Senior and Community Center. The savings in energy costs would allow the center to offer more programs for citizens of Ewing Township.
FMC Corporation Princeton Research and Development Center Amount requested: $2 million Commercial and academic research has shown several potential advantages of the use of natural biopolymers in a range of biomedical applications. Applications under investigation include traditional wound healing, delivery of drugs and biologicals and many emerging areas in Regenerative Medicine and Tissue Engineering. Funding for further research and development would help demonstrate the technology’s potential in medical applications and translate these concepts from the lab to the patient’s bedside.
Georgian Court University Amount Requested: $260,000 New Jersey’s healthcare, pharmaceutical, and high-technology industries require highly qualified nurses, K-12 teachers, graduate students, and clinical, scientific and technical workers. There is a need for specific programs of study to enhance the number and quality of these types of workers. The funding would be used for equipment and supplies to offer students hands-on experience and one-to-one learning opportunities while expanding Georgian Court University's research capabilities.
Goodrich ISR Systems Princeton Amount requested: $2.5 million US Army rotary-winged aircraft are increasingly susceptible to small arms and RPG fire in their current and future operating environments. To combat this threat, aircrews need all available means to quickly identify hostile fire in order to apply countermeasures or take evasive action. Funding to develop and integrate an Indium Gallium Arsenide (InGaAs) Short Wave Infrared (SWIR) detector into the AN/AVR- 2B(V) Laser Detecting Set would enhance the sensor to detect small arms and Rocket Propelled Grenades.
Hopewell Township; Pennington Borough; Hopewell Borough 201 Washington Crossing-Pennington Road, Titusville, NJ 08560 Amount Requested: $500,000 This funding would provide a new, fully functioning Hopewell Valley Senior Center to serve as a focal point for senior and caregiver services and to offer residents the resources they need to age in place successfully for decades to come. Insitech-MTAC Corporation Amount requested: $6.5 million Funding would develop a Technology Center to provide a centralized employment opportunity for current and former federal employees seeking a more predictable employment environment in light of the economic downturn.
Institute for Advanced Study Amount Requested: $178,000 The Dewey Seminar would bring together sociologists, historians, economists, educators, and journalists to focus on the relationship between democracy and education. The funding would be used for two senior, post-doctoral members at the Institute to pursue research and participate in this Seminar.
Isles, Inc. Amount Requested: $500,000 Isles Inc. would use the funding to further its Healthy Energy Action for Trenton (HEAT) demonstration project. HEAT services would include energy audits and retrofits; structural repair and systems upgrades in homes; testing for and remediation of lead contamination, asthma triggers, and other environmental hazards; and renewable energy installation with a focus on solar power systems. HEAT would also provide significant opportunities for green job training and community education.
Jamesburg Borough Amount requested: $93,378 Funding would help the Borough of Jamesburg modernize its communications equipment in order to improve the reliability of police communications, and thus public safety.
Jamesburg Borough Amount Requested: $150,000 The Borough of Jamesburg would use the funding to help upgrade cracked and deteriorating sanitary and storm sewers throughout the community. This deterioration of the sewer system is leading to groundwater infiltration of the sanitary sewers and cave-ins of the storm sewers.
Jewish Family & Children's Service of Greater Mercer County Amount Requested: $300,000 Jewish Family and Children’s Service (JFCS) is a leading non-profit provider of health and social services with roots in the community since 1937. The funding would be used for 1) assisting older adults to age-in-place through targeted and coordinated services, enhanced independence, improved socialization, empowerment, community building, and increased quality of life; and 2) creating efficiencies and cost savings in service delivery.
Lawrence Township Amount Requested: $200,000 Lawrence Township would use the funding to construct a bicycle and pedestrian trail through Carson Road Woods. The proposed project would construct a 10-foot wide bicycle and pedestrian trail through the Carson Road Woods property between Carson Road and Belleview Terrace.
Lawrence Township Amount Requested: $750,000 The Township of Lawrence would use the funding to expand the existing Lawrence Township Senior Center to include a new computer lab, meeting room, and recreational area.
Marlboro Township Amount Requested: $1,000,000 Marlboro Township would use the funding develop stormwater best management practices to address problems such as inadequate infrastructure. This problem has caused various watershed related issues, including substandard water quality, erosion, deposition, environmental degradation and flooding.
Mercer County Improvement Authority Amount requested: $423,000 Funding would be used by the Mercer County Improvement Authority to provide a comprehensive case management program for prisoners returning to the community from the Mercer County Correctional Facility after a term of incarceration. This program would provide pre-release assessment of the educational, health, job readiness, housing, and legal services needs of former prisoners as well as linkage to services.
Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Amount requested: $500,000 Funding would be used by the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office to establish a county-wide gun violence prevention hotline. The program would be focused on encouraging students to anonymously report weapon-related threats in their schools and communities.
Monmouth County Amount Requested: $1,100,000 This wastewater and water quality improvement project would be a shared services facility in Monmouth County that would allow both the County and municipalities to comply with newly implemented New Jersey regulations. Funding would be used for the construction of a service vehicle and equipment wash facility.
Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Amount requested: $300,000 The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office would use the funding to modernize the county’s Trunk Radio System to improve the reliability of communications – vital for public safety - throughout the county.
Monmouth University Amount Requested: $500,000 The funding would be used for Monmouth University’s Middle East Business Education Initiative to provide opportunities for small cohorts of Israeli and Palestinian students to travel to Monmouth University to study and undertake internships with New York City metro-area regional businesses. Monmouth University Amount Requested: $250,000 The funding would be used for Monmouth University’s Women of Faith Program, an academic exchange program between Monmouth University’s Social Work Department and the World Conference of Religions for Peace. The collaborative effort would create opportunities for the exchange of experiences among untrained localized social workers with professionally trained social workers from other regions.
Monmouth University Amount requested: $800,000 Monmouth University is seeking assistance in expanding its Resilient Coastal Urban Community and Ecosystem (RESCUE) Initiative, which is designed to help New Jersey’s shore communities reduce pollution and protect critical habitats. Funding will be used to expand the local climate monitoring network and to help develop additional tools for communities to protect and enhance New Jersey’s shore environment.
Monmouth University Amount Requested: $400,000 Monmouth University would use the funding to establish a comprehensive set of programs in support of enhancing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education and research with an overall goal of attracting and retaining more students in STEM disciplines.
Municipal Land Use Center at the College of New Jersey Amount Requested: $200,000 The funding would be used for business development assistance to the City of Trenton in connection with several ongoing projects and to help retain and hire additional employees at the Municipal Land Use Center
National Writing Project Amount Requested: $30,000,000 The National Writing Project provides support for a national infrastructure of more than 200 writing projects sites (including sites at Rutgers and Rider Universities) that serve their local schools and teaching communities with high-quality teacher professional development in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The funding would be used to fund programs in teacher development, quality writing, and research to help improve student performance in writing.
NJ Association of Conservation Districts Amount Requested: $1,200,000 The funding would be used for an important ongoing state-federal partnership to provide nonfederal conservation technical assistance staff to all types of New Jersey farms and enable more farmers to participate in important conservation programs under the Farm Bill.
NJ Association for Sustainable Agriculture Amount Requested: $250,000 The funding would be used for a two-year study into the development of regulations to enhance locally-based and sustainable agricultural operations and improve food security.
NJ Department of Agriculture Amount Requested: $2,000,000 The funding would be used for integrated pest management utilizing naturally-occurring bacteria to reduce gypsy moth feeding and subsequent damage to forest and shade trees.
NJ Department of Children and Families Amount requested: $750,000 Funding would help the New Jersey Department of Children and Families create new child forensic interviewer positions in each of New Jersey’s Child Advocacy Centers. Properly trained child forensic interviewers are needed to work with child victims of crime, a growing problem in New Jersey and across the nation.
NJ Department of Environmental Protection Amount Requested: $12,000,000 The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection is seeking funding for the closure and remedial actions at nonfunctioning solid waste landfills throughout the state. There are 727 old, non-functioning solid waste landfills in New Jersey that have not been properly closed and remediated, potentially contaminating public water supplies.
NJ State Library for the Blind and Handicapped Amount Requested: $140,000 The New Jersey Library for the Blind and Handicapped (NJLBH) is a division of the New Jersey State Library and a cooperating network library of the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped of the Library of Congress. The funding would be used for the New Jersey State Library for the Blind and Handicapped to help promote its services with a statewide awareness campaign and expand its digital materials.
NJ Transit Amount Requested: $5,000,000 NJ TRANSIT would use the funding to expand the Trenton Railroad Station to add new restrooms, a waiting area, retail shops and dining options that improve the commuting experience for NJ TRANSIT’s bus, rail and light rail customers.
NJ Transit Amount Requested: $15,000,000 NJ TRANSIT would use the funding to improve the communication system for its bus fleets. With the installation of an automatic vehicle locator system, NJ TRANSIT would be able to improve the reliability of communications with its buses and enhance bus security.
NJ Transit Amount Requested: $345,000,000 NJ TRANSIT is requesting funding for the construction of the ARC Tunnel. Funding would be used for the construction of a 9.2-mile commuter rail extension and tunnel from Secaucus, New Jersey to Midtown Manhattan. This new tunnel would increase peak capacity from 23 trains per hour to 48 and create expanded station capacity in Manhattan. This project would also provide direct access to NYC subway lines, PATH and current Penn Station.
New Jersey Virtual School Amount Requested: $400,000 The New Jersey Virtual School is a program created by the Monmouth-Ocean Educational Services Commission; currently over 107 public school districts in New Jersey access the New Jersey Virtual School to provide online educational opportunities for their students. The funding would be used for purchasing online courses, developing curriculum and student management system; providing professional development for teachers and making these courses available to more students throughout New Jersey.
The New York Army Corps of Engineers Amount Requested: $5,000,000 The Army Corps of Engineers would use the funding for continued operations and maintenance for the Shrewsbury River, including dredging and the subsequent placement of dredged material on nearby beaches.
The New York Army Corps of Engineers Amount Requested: $500,000 The Army Corps of Engineers is seeking funding for continuing the preconstruction, engineering and design phase on the South River in New Jersey. South River is prone to imminent and severe flooding from hurricanes and other storms which has caused damage to towns throughout the Raritan Basin. This funding would be used for flood mitigation projects including the construction of a storm surge barrier, floodwalls and levees, interior drainage facilities, and ecosystem restoration.
Northeast Organic Farming Association Amount Requested: $200,000 The funding would be used for three organic demonstration farms and associated technology training, and the educational programs needed to develop best practices in vegetable, field crop, and animal-based production systems to maximize carbon sequestration and minimize greenhouse gas emissions.
North Brunswick Township Amount Requested: $155,000 North Brunswick Township would use the funding to make repairs to the roof of its library. The existing roof at the Township of North Brunswick Public Library is currently leaking in several locations, and the warranty and useful life of the roof have been exceeded.
North Brunswick Township Amount requested: $185,000 The Township of North Brunswick would use the funding to purchase a closed-circuit video surveillance system with remote monitoring capability. Installing the system would both reduce the police department’s operating costs and improve public safety.
Ocean Power Technologies Amount requested: $2 million Funds would be used to develop port and harbor security solutions to enhance security for the U.S. Navy through the integration of existing HF radar technology with a non-polluting, self-generating power source based on ocean buoys.
Old Bridge Township Amount requested: $1 million The Township of Old Bridge would use the funding to purchase public safety communications equipment for its Emergency Operations Center. The new two-way police radio system would respond directly to the National Preparedness Guidelines concerning prevention, protection, and recovery. The Motorola radio system currently in use has reached the end of its life and replacement components are no longer being manufactured.
Old Bridge Township Public Schools Amount Requested: $200,000 The Reaching for the Stars Again program was created in the 1960s to educate students about space and excite students about the recently-announced U.S. space mission. The funding would be used to provide equipment for two full-dome digital planetarium projection systems to replace aging star projectors and continue the planetarium's educational mission.
The Philadelphia Army Corps of Engineers Amount Requested: $400,000 The Army Corps of Engineers is currently conducting a Delaware River Basin Comprehensive feasibility study for New Jersey. The Corps would use funding for the formulation and evaluation of alternative solutions to the region’s problems regarding flooding along the Delaware River and tributaries.
Plainsboro Township Amount Requested: $2,000,000 The Township of Plainsboro would use the funding to convert an existing library into a community recreation center. The Township is in the process of establishing a new library in the Village Center, and would renovate the existing library to preserve it as a public-use facility for the benefit of Township residents.
Primis Technologies, LLC Amount requested: $2 million Funding would be used to develop real-time, non-destructive test systems to monitor ammunition degradation. This would enable the Army to perform real-time, on-site chemical and aging tests to prevent catastrophic self-ignition caused by degraded ammunition.
Princeton Borough Amount Requested: $1,968,000 Princeton Borough would use the funding to facilitate the reconstruction of Mercer Street, a historic street within Princeton Borough that is one of three major roadways into the Borough, providing vital access to the Borough’s businesses and Princeton University.
Princeton Optronics, Inc. Amount requested: $1.75 million Funding would be used to complete development of prototype high power fiber lasers for use in the military and commercial sectors. The objective is to create fiber lasers that are smaller in size, weight, and cost compared to the conventional technology of fiber lasers.
Reach Out and Read Amount Requested: $10,000,000 The funding would be used for Reach Out and Read, a national program that promotes literacy and language development in infants and young children, targeting disadvantage and poor children and families.
Reading is Fundamental Amount Requested: $28,000,000 This funding would support Reading is Fundamental, which enhances child literacy by providing millions of underserved children with free books for personal ownership and reading encouragement from the more than 18,000 locations throughout all fifty states, Washington, D.C., Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic Amount Requested: $15,000,000 Funding would support Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic, a model for effective public-private sector partnerships, in which a national, largely privately funded organization with a mostly volunteer workforce helps to fulfill federal and state mandates by providing blind and learning disabled students with a simple, cost-effective accommodation.
Rutgers School for Environmental and Biological Sciences Amount Requested: $650,000 The funding would be used for research to identify the health attributes, investigate new and value-added uses, and develop new and improved varieties of blueberries and cranberries.
Rutgers University Center for Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Response Amount requested: $2 million Funding would be used to expand the Center’s research and program support activities for state and federal customers, including the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management.
Sarnoff Corporation Amount requested: $2 million Funding would help create compression/encoding technology to ensure that high definition (HD) video from live or digital sources is transmitted to military users in a way that would capture key digital information that would otherwise be lost in the HD signal compression process is retained and useable for intelligence analysis purposes.
SeaBox Amount requested: $2 million Funding would help produce a mobile foundry for in-the-field production of poured metal part to help speed the delivery of spare and repair parts to U.S. forces in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Shrewsbury Borough Amount requested: $30,000 The Borough of Shrewsbury has determined through table top and full scale exercises of its first responder components that additional pre-disaster mitigation training is required in all departments responsible for emergency response during a crisis. Funds would be used to bolster pre-disaster mitigation training.
Shrewsbury Borough Amount Requested: $570,000 Shrewsbury Borough would use the funding for the design and construction of traffic calming measures along Patterson Avenue. The requested project would improve pedestrian access to the Patterson Avenue Park as well as the Borough Elementary School situated on Obre Place.
Shrewsbury Township Amount Requested: $2,500,000 The Township of Shrewsbury is seeking funding for a number of Municipal infrastructure improvements projects. The Township of Shrewsbury would use funds to complete the second phase of the Municipal Building expansion, increase the square footage of the existing Municipal Building, and provide for a senior citizens room and recreation areas for youth and adult citizens of the Township.
SiGNA Chemistry Request Amount: $2,000,000 SiGNA Chemistry of Monmouth Junction would use continuing funding to further their development of fuel cells. Funding would be used to support material research and development to increase the hydrogen yield of SiGNa Chemistry’s powders for hydrogen on-demand systems. The system would support emergency power requirements, remove energy intensive applications from the power grid, and power small fuel cells for commercial and military applications.
SiGNa Chemistry, Inc. Amount requested: $2 million Funding would be used for the further development of robust, low-cost, reliable, safe, and easy to use fuel cell technology for civilian and military applications.
Somerset County Amount Requested: $2,000,000 The funding would help the County of Somerset develop the West Trenton Rail Line, including engineering plans for the track work, station and platform design, access improvements to the stations, and design of the rail yard.
Somerset Home for Temporarily Displaced Children Amount Requested: $400,000 The funding would be used for a 24-hour supervised transitional/permanent housing program for youth ages 18-21, who have aged out of the foster care system, and provide those youths with the skills they need to succeed in life.
The South Central Middlesex County Flood Control Commission Amount Requested: $500,000 The South Central Middlesex County Flood Control Commission would use the funding for a study of flooding problems throughout a 44 square mile region, including municipalities of East Brunswick, Helmetta, Jamesburg, Monroe, Old Bridge, South River, and Spotswood. In 2005, flooding caused extensive damage to the region and required the evacuation of more than 700 families.
South River Borough Amount Requested: $4,000,000 Funding would be used by the Borough of South River, New Jersey to purchase and install Automated Remote Electric and Water Meters for both the utilities owned by the Borough. These meters would provide bi-directional real time information to both the utilities and the consumer, allowing consumers to adjust their usage patterns around peak hours and allow the utilities to charge users based on a “cost of service” design.
Spotswood Borough Amount Requested: $1,125,000 The funding would help Spotswood Borough improve Wyoming Avenue between Burlington Avenue to its southerly terminus. The northern portion of the project currently experiences periodic flooding and the southern portion of the project has poor drainage in general.
Spotswood Borough Amount Requested: $1,718,750 The Borough of Spotswood would use the funding to construct a new Elevated Water Storage Tank for the Borough’s Potable Water System. Construction of a second elevated Water Tank at the site of the old tank would provide adequate capacity, provide back up for the existing standpipe and improve fire fighting capabilities.
Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association Amount Requested: $1,000,000 The Stony Brook-Millstone Watershed Association would use the funding to complete a 14,000 square-foot state-of-the art Environmental Center in Hopewell Township, Mercer County, New Jersey. The center would contain new laboratory, classroom, office, and exhibit space and serve as a demonstration project for advanced renewable energy and water conservation and management technologies.
Thomas Edison State College Amount Requested: $500,000 The School of Nursing at Thomas Edison offers online distance learning programs to registered nurses throughout the country for those who need an alternative to campus-based instruction. The funding would be used for developing six nursing courses in the specialty area of school nursing to ensure that there is a strong supply of school nurses in New Jersey schools.
City of Trenton Amount requested: $800,000 Funding would support the City of Trenton’s YouthStat program, which is designed to prevent at-risk youth from spending their adult lives as long term, criminal offenders. Under the YouthStat approach, multiple public and private law enforcement, criminal justice, and social service agencies work collaboratively on a weekly basis to identify at-risk youngsters, implement appropriate crime prevention and other intervention approaches, and monitor their progress.
City of Trenton Amount requested: $300,000 The City of Trenton would use the funding to implement measures that would protect its water filtration plant from flood events. Flood damage to the plant would cause devastating service interruptions and have an adverse impact on the public health of area citizens dependent upon the affected drinking water supply. City of Trenton Amount Requested: $4,000,000 The Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Trenton are seeking funding for the environmental restoration of Assunpink Creek. Funding would be used for stream and riparian habitat restoration and removal of abandoned, urban and industrial obstructions.
City of Trenton Amount Requested: $400,000 The City of Trenton, New Jersey would use the funding to restore historic Cadwalader Park. Funding would be used to develop and implement a plan for conserving and preserving the 100 acre Park’s original landscaping.
Trenton Fuel Works Amount Requested: $1,700,000 Trenton Fuel Works LLC of Trenton is seeking funding for the construction of a biofuel plant in Trenton, New Jersey. The funding would be used complete a detailed engineering design for the reconstruction of an existing, but unused, sludge dehydration plant into a biofuels manufacturing plant and to construct a pilot-sized hydrogenation facility.
University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Request Amount: $4,300,000 The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey’s Robert Wood Johnson Medical School would use the funding for a Core Facility in Chemical Biology and Molecular Therapeutics. This project would help the academic research communities of New Jersey to study chemical biology and gene silencing.
University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Amount Requested: $3,000,000 An academic clinical research organization would bring together the clinical research resources at UMDNJ, assist it in forming outside partnerships, and encourage the translation of basic research into clinical care. The funding would be used for seed funding for new clinical studies at UMDNJ, expanding the clinical staff, and educating new clinicians.
West Windsor Township Amount Requested: $250,000 West Windsor Township would use the funding for green improvements to facilities within its Municipal Complex.
West Windsor Township Amount requested: $60,000 West Windsor Township is seeking funding to construct an electronic message sign, which is needed to keep the traveling public informed of emergency alerts. Funding would be utilized for engineering consultant site survey, design and permitting; bid documents, the physical construction and project administration .
West Windsor Township Amount Requested: $2,500,000 The Township of West Windsor is proposing to renovate an existing structure that would be designated as a Community Center for all local and regional residents. This building would include classrooms, a fitness center, a large gymnasium, storage rooms, a media room, a computer training area, bathroom facilities, and a kitchen.
Work Environment Council of New Jersey Amount Requested: $150,000 The funding would allow the Work Environment Council to research, write, and disseminate a comprehensive guide for New Jersey workers on prevention of toxic catastrophes. |
