Washington – The League of Conservation Voters (LCV) announced its 2007 National Environmental Scorecard, and U.S. Representative Rush Holt (NJ-12) received a 100 percent rating for the ninth time since elected to Congress. Holt, a member of the Committee on Natural Resources is one of only two members of the House, along with Rep. Jim McGovern (MA-3), to earn a 100 percent lifetime rating from the LCV. The LCV report highlighted Holt’s support for the Energy Independence and Security Act, which raised the overall fuel economy of cars and light trucks to 35 miles per gallon by 2020 – the first fuel economy increase of new cars, SUVs, and other light trucks since 1975. The bill also included a “Green Jobs” provision to provide workforce training linked to jobs supporting renewable energy and energy efficiency initiatives. The Report also cited his votes in 2007 to strengthen clean air protections, prevent reckless oil development on public lands, and restore funding for environment and conservation agencies and programs.
“John F. Kennedy said in March 1961, ‘It is our task in our time and in our generation to hand down undiminished to those who come after us, as was handed down to us by those who went before, the natural wealth and beauty which is ours.’ Protecting our natural resources for future generations has been one of my highest priorities since my first day as a Representative,” Holt said. “I am honored that the League of Conservation Voters has consistently recognized my efforts to protect the environment.
“I will continue my work to reduce human causes of climate change, preserve open space, protect national parks, invest in alternative sources of energy, and reduce the exposure of children to environmental hazards,” Holt added.
