Trenton, NJ – U.S. Rep. Rush Holt (NJ-12) today joined Trenton Mayor Douglas Palmer, Greater Trenton Area YMCA officials and members, including Interim Director Warren D. Keleman, to announce $237,500 in federal funding for the construction of a new facility for the Greater Trenton Area YMCA. The new facility would include a gymnasium, aquatics center, fitness facilities, and classroom. Holt secured the funding for the project in the Fiscal Year 2009 Federal Appropriations Bill.
“The YMCA is a place that provides a positive environment for our children and our families. Countless Trenton area residents – of all ages and from all walks of life – have developed, as the YMCA describes it, a wellness of spirit, mind, and body,” Holt said. “With funding to build this new facility, the Trenton Area YMCA will be able to strengthen the services it provides.”
Holt was joined by YMCA members, as well as Mercer County Freeholders and YMCA Board Members Anthony Carabelli and Pasquale Colavita, Board Treasurer Jeffrey Hall, and Board Member Laura Seplaki.
"We are truly grateful for the support that Congressman Holt and other members of the New Jersey delegation provided in helping the Greater Trenton Area YMCA secure this generous grant,” said, Jonathan Meer, Board President, Greater Trenton Area YMCA. “On behalf of the Y's Board of Directors, we are extremely confident that the investment being made in our facilities and programs will pay significant dividends as we work collaboratively to build healthy kids, healthy families and healthy communities in our Trenton, Lawrence, and Ewing operations area."
