HOLT SECURES $500,000 FOR OLD BRIDGE LAW ENFORCEMENT COMMUNICATIONS

Township Requested Funding to Improve Public Safety Communications System

(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Rep. Rush Holt has secured $500,000 for Old Bridge Township to improve its public safety communications system. The funding was included in the Fiscal Year 2010 Department Homeland Security Appropriations bill, which passed Congress last week and which President Obama is expected to sign into law shortly. Holt fought to include the funding in the bill after Old Bridge Township officials requested the funds.

“I will always work to ensure that local law enforcement agencies have the resources and tools they need to do their jobs,” Holt said. “I’m pleased this investment was included in the bill to fund our hometown security efforts.”

As part of a federally-mandated project, the Township of Old Bridge Police Department is re-banding its communications system. In addition, with state funding, it is making improvements to its Public Service Answering Point System.  The existing emergency communications system is nearly 20 years old, spare parts are difficult to obtain, and the current system does not meet the standards called for by the 9/11 Commission in its report.  The funds secured by Holt will help advance this important multi-year public safety and hometown security project.

“In hard economic times like these it’s important to have a Congressman who gets it,” Mayor Jim Philips said. “That’s why Congressman Holt listened to us and worked hard to receive this grant to improve the technology in our police department and the security of our buildings.”
