Holt: Minimum Wage Increase
Will Help Working Families

Washington, D.C. -- Rep. Rush Holt (NJ-12) today released the following statement on the House of Representatives’ passage of legislation to raise the minimum wage from $5.15 to $7.25 per hour over two years:

“This raise for working families is long overdue, and it will benefit nearly 13 million people individually and will benefit all Americans by elevating those workers who are holding up so much of our society.  As costs for health care, energy, and higher education have risen, the minimum wage has stagnated for too long, and its real value is at its lowest level in 51 years.  Today, the House of Representatives has acted to help working families put food on the table, a roof over their head, and clothes on their back.  It is emblematic of a return to economic growth that is broad-based, not concentrated to the wealthiest one percent of society.”
